When I was a young boy, I wanted to be a number of things when I grew up. I went through multiple phases that sparked my interest, first, when I took interest in dinosaurs. I checked out every book in the library about dinosaurs and thought I would become a paleontologist, digging up prehistoric bones. My newfound interest in outer space soon replaced that phase. I dreamed of becoming an astronaut for a while, until I discovered that I wouldn’t be able to pass the dizziness tests that they are subjected to. I wasn’t bummed out for too long because there are more things to explore besides space, after all. Around the time that the movie Twister came out I took great interest in weather. After seeing the exciting tornado chases, I wanted to become a storm chaser. The job apparently isn’t as exciting as the movie makes it out to be, at least all the time; there is a considerable amount of waiting for these storms to happen, not to mention all the boring paperwork—blah! Meteorology came up briefly, but didn’t really hit it off with me. I never did pursue weather, but it still holds my interest.
While I was in high school, I realized that I should pursue something I am good at, like art, which I have been doing all my life. Around this particular time in my life, I also began to take great interest in cars. I figured I could get the best of both worlds by going off to study automotive design and/or engineering. I began to push the idea of artistic careers even further and came to the conclusion that I like almost every aspect of art, which made it extra hard to make any kind of decision. It’s hard enough to figure out what to do with your life, but I narrowed it down to graphic design, which is the common ground between wildly different artistic venues. Graphic design is huge and allows me to study what interests me.
