According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, declining wages and increasing rental costs have put housing out of the reach of minimum-wage workers. In the median state, a minimum-wage worker would have to work 87 hours a week to afford a two-bedroom apartment at 30% of his or her income, the Federal definition of affordable housing.
