Flight of the Conchords is a Grammy-nominated folk, pop, and comedy band composed of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Billing themselves as "Formerly New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo" (having been bumped by a tribute band of themselves, Like of the Conchords), the group uses a combination of witty banter, characterisation and acoustic guitars to work the audience. The duo's comedy and music became first the basis of a BBC radio series and then an American television series, which premiered in 2007, also called Flight of the Conchords.

Named Best Alternative Comedy Act at the 2005 US Comedy Arts Festival, Best Newcomer at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and receiving a nomination for the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2003, the duo's live performances have gained them a worldwide cult following.

The pair first met at Wellington College, a state-run boys high school in Wellington, New Zealand. They first teamed up in 1998 at Victoria University of Wellington where both studied film and drama. Jemaine is also a member of The
Humourbeasts - a comedy act with Taika Waititi (aka Taika Cohen), who directed him in Eagle vs Shark. Bret is a member of well known New Zealand dub/roots band, the Black Seeds. The band released Folk the World Tour in 2002. As of 2007, the duo is signed to a recording contract with Sub Pop, released an EP on August 7, 2007 entitled The Distant Future, with a full-length, self-labeled record to be released April 22, 2008
