Mission Statement

Our proposal joins with a larger school community service project that takes place in the National State Park of Cardoso Island, São Paulo, Brazil.

Once a semester our HS students collect used goods (clothing, toys, shoes, school supplies) to be reused by members of another community. At the same time, in a fisherman community located on Cardoso Island, the children of the community collects non-perishable items deposited on the beach brought by sea currents. The items collected by the children constitute “exchange currency” to trade for the usable goods taken there by our HS students.

The material collected on the beach is split in two groups: national and global garbage. National garbage is then sent to recycling facilities in the city of São Paulo. The global garbage constitutes the material we propose to investigate its origin, track the maritime routes, analyze the environmental impact, and contact sea ferrying companies to talk about this issue. Our goal is to promote the awareness of the existence of global garbage, preparing our youth to be proactive, enhancing a world consciousness of our future leaders.
